- “Pursuing greater knowledge of words may often make you erudite.”
Contrary to popular belief, Erudites are not all bad people. It’s because of the greedy, sneaky, power-hungry Jeanine and her cronies that we get a bad rep. There’s often a rotten egg in every group, and she just happened to be ours. Let’s take a look at some awesome Erudites who did a lot of good for us and helped advance our lives by giving us things we can’t imagine living without.
The first man that comes to mind is Johannes Gutenberg. He invented movable type printing in the 1400s. Because of him, printers are easily able to produce thousands of books — and we do love our books!
How about Marie Curie? She was the first person to ever be awarded not one, but two Nobel prizes. She was also the first female professor at The University of Paris. She came up with the theory of radioactivity and under her direction, the first treatment of neoplasms (abnormal cell growth) were conducted, hence the use of radiology treatment for cancer patients.
If any of you live in the South, or especially hot climates, you know that air conditioning is an absolute necessity. We have Willis Carrier to thank for this brilliant invention. The first prototype for an air conditioner was developed by Mr. Carrier in 1902, and all those hot, sticky, summer days became a distant memory.
Last, but certainly not least, is Dr. Martin Cooper who is credited with inventing the first portable handset, also known as the cell phone. True, it was a huge brick, but this invention paved the way for the sleeker, more portable phones many of us can’t seem to live without these days.
These are just a few examples of awesome Erudites that used their talents for something good. Where would you be without us?

“Wait,” I interrupt her. “So you have no idea what my aptitude is?”
“Yes and no. My conclusion,” she explains, “is that you display equal aptitud for Abnegation, Dauntless and Erudite. People who get this kind of results are…” She looks over her shoulder like she expects someone to appear behind her. “…are called…Divergent.”
